This leading-edge book by Esther and Jerry Hicks, who present the teachings of the Non-Physical entity Abraham, will help you understand the emotions that you’ve been experiencing all of your life. You’l This leading-edge book by Esther and Jerry Hicks, who present the teachings of the Non-Physical entity Abraham, will help you understand the emotions that you’ve been experiencing all of your life.

Instead of the out-of-control, knee-jerk reactions that most people have to their ever-changing life experience, this work will put those responses into a broader context. You’ll come to understand what emotions are, what each of them means, and how to effectively utilize your new awareness of them.As you read, you’ll come to appreciate, and make peace with, where you are right now, even though there is so much more that you may desire. Every thought you absorb will bring you to a greater understanding of your own personal value and will show you how to open your own doors to whatever you may wish to be, do, or have. And as you turn the last page of this book, you will very likely find yourself thinking, I have always known this, but now, I know this!Includes a FREE CD excerpt from a live Art of Allowing Workshop with Abraham! 'Beyond the five physical senses that you are actively aware of, there is another less-realized sense — the sense of emotion.' Pg 20Esther Hicks channeled this book from her 'higher self,' an entity she calls Abraham.

It is about how one can deliberately create their experience by being aware of their emotions. It also gives advice on how to focus on those things that make you feel good, because by doing so, Hicks believes it will 'bring you into alignment' with your higher being.

And, therefore 'Beyond the five physical senses that you are actively aware of, there is another less-realized sense — the sense of emotion.' And, therefore, you'll allow the goodness of creation to flow through you.'

Allowing yourself to become what life has caused you to desire is not about action. It is about the aligning of thought Energies.

It is about focusing your attention in the direction of your desire rather than looking back at the current conditions that have given birth to your desire.' Pg 25My favorite part of this book was contained within the first 45 pages in which Abraham talks in a general way about emotions and their latent power. The rest of the book contained examples of how to apply this teaching to specific questions Hicks received at her various workshops.I didn't find the second portion as helpful because, first of all, it felt like we were focusing on current conditions. Secondly, the answer to every question was to soften the emotions by looking for things that made you feel good about in whatever subject was being discussed. Then, roll with that until the emotions shift. Honestly, it felt repetitive after the first two or three examples.I suppose if one of the questions had applied directly to my life experience right now, then maybe I would have had a different view of this book. As it is, I prefer to this.Ask and It is Given deals with the topic in a more general way and I got more out of it.I can understand the criticisms of Hicks as a life philosophy: that she teaches people to ignore their problems, to be selfish, to be utterly self absorbed.

But wasn't it a teaching of the Buddha that the first love you should attend to, before you can offer unconditional love to others, is self love. You build a base of love and everything else flows from that. I see Hick's teachings as the same kind of thing — self love first.I think another point to bring up before closing the discussion of this book is the idea that the Law of Attraction, so beloved of New Age teachers and authors, functions rather like gravity. You don't have to teach someone how to utilize gravity because it just works. The Law of Attraction is the same kind of deal and isn't that nice to know. So, no matter what you're doing, thinking or feeling, you're not going to float off into outer space because gravity has got both of your feet safely planted on the ground. I like to approach any teachings about the Law of Attraction the same way. I can play with ideas and techniques, but at the end of the day, it's going to do its thing whether I'm paying attention to it or not.Recommended for readers who like New Age materials or love the teachings of Abraham Hicks.

The original review is posted there, plus great comments from other ex-followers.These teachings do seem great and feel great at first, but eventually I found them harmful, not helpful. A word to the wise, if something seems too good to be true: IT IS.I was thoroughly committed to these teachings for 5 years. It took me on an emotional high. I felt that my life was amazing and felt I knew the secrets of the universe. This is mainly what this book does: tells you all good news and teaches you to manipulate your mood so you feel good about everything and deny anything negative. That's why it has all the rave reviews. Drugs would get rave reviews too if we didn't know any better;)So, does it work? It is a dangerous mix of helpful and harmful information.

I know that I felt better and more empowered than ever, which tends to happen when you buy into a philosophy that says you are all-powerful, there is never any reason to feel bad, and you must feel good to get everything you want. Lies can lead to positive change, can they not? The A-H material does promote self-worth, self-efficacy, a better outlook, considering what you want in life, etc. Some of the results I experienced were genuine shifts because of my more expanded thinking plus being in better touch with myself and believing in myself. But a lot of the results were emotional hype, temporary, ultimately unhelpful, and not based in truth. There are so many other avenues to an improved life, and I strongly recommend those that are not rife with falsehoods like the ones sprinkled liberally throughout the Abraham-Hicks ideology.First of all, this information is being channeled from an unknown source.

Abers don't care, they are fiercely in love with Abraham and think that they know everything they need to know by listening to beautiful words that fill them with hope and love and excitement. Now that I am no longer brainwashed, I can't believe how naive I was.

Emotions can be manipulated. Feeling good and right about something is not the highest level of truth or wisdom.Intense positive emotion can have a positive domino effect in your life for awhile, but it doesn’t mean the idea that made you feel good was pure truth and goodness. Please take care of where information is coming from. Don't romanticize entities as perfect, all-knowing, or all-loving. Only God is those things, so unless you foolishly believe Abraham is God, then take care to keep your wits about you just as you would if a charismatic human being was preaching to you. So who is Abraham? Abraham may describe himself as something like 'leading edge, nonphysical group consciousness.' But really, who is Abraham?

An astral entity. He can get away with saying whatever he wants because most people cannot even begin to verify the information! It's all just vague and nice sounding, and people eat it up because they don't know any better.

“Channeled” does not actually mean pure or honest or better or without an agenda. It simply means channeled! As for so-called 'manifesting,' during my Abrahaze I was over-the-moon to find the perfect item in a store, get a great parking space, find a nice apartment, have an inspiring conversation with a stranger, or come across a solution to some problem I'd been having: I was psyched to experience literally ANY synchronicity or “manifestation” as they were all signs of my specially cultivated 'point of attraction.' After my Abrahaze, I realized that this is just normal life. Synchronicity happened before and still happens now, solutions present themselves, people ask questions and the answers show up, just without the special story behind it. When you attach magical thinking and look for meaning in every experience, you find meaning whether it's there or not.

It reminds me of that time my family member had a psychotic episode and was finding secret meaning encoded in every event and item. That's what Abraham-Hicks taught me to do is see normal life through a special lens of magic and manifestation. When I finally stopped to look around, however, my life was just NOT any different from anyone else's. I became practiced in thinking and feeling in a different way, but the life that is promised never came to be.

My inner life was pumped up, but my outer life remained a “mixed bag” of “manifestations,” and was utterly comparable to everyone else’s life. If these teachings were presented as an emotional experience instead of a way to worldly success then-well, it sure wouldn't have a huge following, but it would be more honest.

Instead it caused me problems.Problems included denial and delusion, losing all sense of how to properly solve problems in my life, numbing negative emotions, feeling special and superior, isolation from others, turning off critical thinking, and losing my proper intuitive guidance. These teachings appeal to those of us who really, really, really, really want to believe that the world works this way: short-cuts, effortlessness, everything you could ever want, a perfect world, no pain, no reason to ever feel bad. This book is full of sweet lies made to sound like the deepest wisdom and made to resonate with the part of us that wants it to be so. Believing harder does not make it so. Having a large, brainwashed fan base also does not make it so.As for life after A-H, suffice it to say that the truth is always better than lies in the end, and my life has improved on the inside AND the outside.

The inner tension from living in such an unnatural state has lifted. I don't manipulate my mood or dream up fantasies and mistake it for accomplishment.

My personal evolution is faster and more authentic without the distorted spiritual beliefs. And I am not handicapping my success in life by over-emphasizing emotional energy in a world that is so much more than that. These teachings are deceptive and illusory. You will feel all-powerful and tapped into great wisdom, but you will be more confused than ever.I doubt that the most successful people in the world are bothering with the sort of content in these books. In fact I believe that they have reinforced completely different circuits inside themselves than those that A-H will help you reinforce. A-H reinforces circuits that will make you LESS effective, not more. And for anyone reading this who is currently a committed Aber, if reading this makes you feel bad, it is not because you're separating yourself from the knowledge of your inner being, it's because sometimes the truth just doesn't feel good.

You are living on Earth, after all, not in heaven. For more discussion, please google my blog (Responsible Spirituality) or see my profile for the link. Ask and It is Given is an excellent introduction to the Abraham material, and The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent features many exercises or games to improve your life, but the strength of The Astonishing Power of Emotions is its simplicity. At any point in life, on any subject, we are either sailing along smoothly or putting up resistance, and this book employs the simple analogy of heading downstream or upstream. When we’re “downstream” on a topic, results come easily.

If we’re “upstream,” as much as we want good results, they continually elude us.Emotions let us know whether we’re headed downstream or upstream, or to what degree we are embracing or resisting what we want in our lives. In simple terms, good-feeling emotions indicate downstream movement, and bad-feeling emotions upstream. To achieve our desires, we need to change bad feelings to good, but this can only be done incrementally. There is no faking it—we are where we are emotionally and results will show that.

And yet, we can slowly change how we feel about any topic, thus improving our results.Let me take a step backwards to say that “Abraham” is reportedly a group of non-physical entities that speak through Esther Hicks for the upliftment of humanity. But you don’t need to believe that to benefit from the material. If the advice and processes offered work, what does the source matter? After setting up some basic ideas in the first few chapters (for example that we are spiritual beings in the physical world), Abraham addresses specific life challenges, such as disliking a job, not having enough money, being married to a terminally ill person, losing a pet, being divorced against your wishes, being back-stabbed at work or socially, etc. In each case Abraham steps through the negative thoughts typical of each experience.

Next he changes the internal dialog incrementally, to improve the emotions a little at a time. This might just be from revenge to anger to frustration at first. The point is that the individual must actually believe the slightly-better-emotionally statements in order to really feel better, which is the key to turning the situation around. This process might take some time to get to happy results, but will eventually work to improve both the situation and how we feel about it.The final chapter is one of my favorite excerpts from the live Q & A Abraham sessions that Esther Hicks does all over the world. This material is also recorded on an included CD. As they say, you needn’t figure out the source of your problems or where you went wrong. All you have to do is reach for a feeling of relief, a slightly better emotion.

And repeat as needed. True that it sounds simpler than it is in practice, but practicing does make it easier, and there are plenty of examples throughout the book. And the part on why the older a person gets the grumpier they usually get was enlightening. I’ve gotta cut that out!I recommend this book to anyone who has read Ask and It is Given and wants more details.

It’s also a boost for Abraham fans who have experimented a bit with improving their self-talk and emotions—this book simplifies the process. It’s also a joyful and uplifting experience just reading it. I think this is the real deal.

I also think many readers misunderstand what it is that is being said. As i understand it: The point is-you are where you are and you must acknowledge that accurately (there are ways to do this) and once understood you then, and only then, have a choice. You can choose to feel better or worse.

But only incrementally. It is a process. If you choose to feel better, say feeling hatred and rage over despair and hopelessness-you are headed in the right direction. I I think this is the real deal. I also think many readers misunderstand what it is that is being said.

I think that the human population, in general, is mired in anger and revenge, which does feel better than insecurity, grief, depression and despair. Trouble is, they are mired, and revenge usually begets revenge so there is this awful cycle of hostility and violence, be it interpersonal, religious, cultural, political and so on. I am still trying to decide what I truly feel about it but it kind of makes sense to me. This is the second book I read from them and it isn't a great introduction to their way of thinking.

This book has many different 'scenarios', all real life examples I suppose, and easily something that we can all relate to. And Esther, or rather, Abraham, discusses the so called negative and positive responses to these senarios, which serves as some kind of a reference point for the readers. So that while reading the book, we as readers may gauge our own emotional responses and evaluate: am I adding negative or positive vibrations to the situation?Like I said, I am still undecided about the subject.

I do feel that yes we contribute to our life in ways that we do not realize and yes it is possible that each of us lives in a world which is the manifestation of our thoughts. I need a little more time to decide whether this is something that resonates with me.The book reads a little boring to me because I am not a fan of one after another 'story'. I prefer if the writer examine his/her theories or beliefs in a more theoretical way with occasional examples. This book is nothing but examples. Each chapter begins with someone talking about their issues and Esther/Abraham responds. This might work for someone who enjoys this type of narration. For me this was very simple reading with little to think about.

But I think it is helpful to see what Esther/Abraham considers negative or positive. It certainly helps me understand my emotional response better. A good explanation of the law of attraction concept. I take the whole 'Abraham' idea with a grain of salt (to be honest it almost stopped me from reading the book entirely - and I was a little embarrassed to be reading a book like this).

This comes across as cult-ish (although I think what she is talking about is the inner voice (higher self) we can access through meditation/dreams). However, since the rest of the book still seemed fascinating (to me), I decided to read it anyways.I loved the visual representation of the stream of our desires, and upstream thoughts vs. Downstream thoughts. In all honestly, I did not find relief in her example thought patterns every time.

For example, the idea of embracing plagiarism and/or slander is not relieving to me. I prefer thoughts such as 'My true colors will shine,' and 'People know the kind of person that I am.' Still, the methodology is great for creating a positive mindset of self-love.Lastly, although I do agree with just getting over our emotional hurts, I think that talking to other people about our problems does not 'amplify' things unless it is just lip service. Authentic empathy (and wisdom) from others is a GOOD thing. It helps us understand our problem from another (non biased) perspective, and helps us embrace and express our emotions (rather than suppress), both of which can greatly aid us in re-aligning ourselves 'downstream' to the vibration of love. Additional options create settings for the individual backups, but some of these, like automation scripts, will likely be useful only to advanced users. Many options are available to restrict or permit syncing of certain files or criteria. However, anyone who loves board games or any kind of puzzle game is sure to enjoy this app, making it well worth the moderate investment. Despite this small bit of confusion, the application performs its few easy tasks admirably, and once you get past its lack of conformity to standards, the interface is very intuitive. El Vortice Esther Y Jerry Hicks does a lot. For instance, selecting multiple files at once almost never works, even though that's essential to performing the program's main function.

The program, itself, does not have any instructions, which is a problem since the interface is difficult to interpret for those without experience using design software. Everything is very clearly laid out in a Mac-style interface, and the entire process takes only a few minutes to set up and seconds to customize in the future if you want to make changes. Clickingon Library allows you to specify the location of photos, and gives the option to perform a dry run without modifying any files. The game just shut down and closed out on us. The interface of this app is streamlined and intuitive, which is exactly what you want for a brainstorming session. With only four screens, the tutorial manages to show you every feature you'll need. While the program worked well, some of the advanced features would have been more useful with user instructions included. It's not a perfect MP4 editing app, but for metadata editing, it works quite well.
